The Hertha Berlin has announced the Tayfun Korkut as manager this Sunday in a desperate attempt to avoid a humiliating relegation from the Bundesliga. Hertha say in a statement that assistant coach Ilija Aračić is also leaving the club “with immediate effect” and that Korkut’s successor will be announced “as soon as this personnel matter has finally been cleared up”.
Korkut had had every opportunity to turn Hertha’s fortunes around after he replaced favored club Pál Dárdai last November, but Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach was the team’s fifth successive loss and extended their run without win in the league to nine games. Hertha, moreover, have not won a game in 2022 and were knocked out of the German Cup by Union Berlin in January.
