Eibar and Alavés start commanding in the SmartBank League

MADRID, 14 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sociedad Deportiva Eibar and Deportivo Alavés rose to the provisional leadership of the SmartBank League this Saturday after beating Tenerife and Leganés, respectively, in a first day at Mirandés and Las Palmas could not beat Sporting and Zaragoza at home.

In Ipurua, Gaizka Garitano’s pupils won the duel against Tenerife (2-1) thanks to a hard-fought comeback that culminated in the final minutes. The gunsmiths certified the three points with a penalty converted by Stoichkov, in the 86th minute, after Fede Venancio equalized shortly after the start of the second half.

Tenerife, who reached the final playoff last season, had gone ahead with a goal from Mo Dauda, in the 49th minute, but were unable to resist the push of the Basques in the final stretch of the match, spurred on by the stands . The victory gives him the leadership shared with Alavés after his victory in Butarque.

Alavés stormed the south of Madrid (1-2) thanks to goals from Miguel de la Fuente, a former pepinero, and Mamadou Sylla, who resolved the clash in the second half with a great cross shot. The goal by the former Girona striker neutralized the tie achieved by the young Naím García, who found his fortune from the edge of the area.

The Blue and Whites went further and deserved better luck; they even equalized in stoppage time through Omeruo but the goal was disallowed for offside. Those of Imanol Idiákez showed their faces and were close to getting a point but they could not stop the good debut of the babazorros, recently relegated to Second.

For their part, in Anduva, Mirandés and Sporting de Gijón shared the points (1-1) in a match whose goals came in the first half hour. Raúl García de Haro put the rojillos ahead in the 27th minute, but José Gragera established the final tie just seven minutes after the locals’ goal. The point falls short for both.

In addition, Las Palmas and Zaragoza also drew (0-0) in the match that closed Saturday’s program, a duel that ended after midnight. The Canaries, with two clear chances from Jonathan Viera and another from Eric Curbelo in added time, got excited in the final minutes with a penalty that didn’t go and the VAR finally rectified it.
