Eduard Romeu: “Barça have already said ‘enough’ to Thebes”

“The agreement with CVC is a bad deal, we would have mortgaged Barça destroying it completely”

BARCELONA, 3 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The vice president of the economic area of FC Barcelona, Eduard Romeu, has pointed out that the agreement to transfer the television rights to CVC “is a bad deal” that would have “mortgaged” them, for which they have said “enough is enough” to the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, and the joint proposal of LaLiga with the investment fund.

“All that remains is for us to go through the Tebas funnel. There is a moment when you have to say ‘enough is enough’ and we have done it. The agreement with CVC is not a good operation. The easiest thing would have been to sign the agreement and say that we would straighten out the economic course in one year instead of five, but we would have mortgaged Barça, destroying it completely,” he said in statements to the program ‘El Món a RAC1’ collected by Europa Press.

Romeu admitted that Barça is to blame for the economic situation, but that “Tebas is co-responsible” and he will not get it out of his head “no matter how much he tweets.” For this reason, the vice president added that previously “they said ‘amen’ to everything against the interests of Barça.”

Regarding the agreement to cede television rights to CVC, Romeu described it as a “bad deal.” He believes that for a modest club it may be “correct”, but for an entity with the economic potential of FC Barcelona it is not a good operation because it means “a coffee for everyone”.

“Other funds offer a 25-year transfer. I can do without CVC. ‘Bank of America’ could be, but we are working with other funds. Many proposals come to us that we have not gone looking for,” he explained about what alternatives they have to CVC , which will be explained in the Extraordinary Assembly to activate these economic levers on June 16.

In this sense, he added that the club has a salary total of 560 million euros, “almost double that of Bayern Munich”, although they would like to be “in line with Madrid”, with 400 million euros.

Finally, Romeu denied that the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, had pressured his counterpart at Barça, Joan Laporta, to dismiss CVC in favor of the European Super League, although he admitted that the project for the new competition has been “a plus factor” to decide.
