Ecuador thinks of asking Jordi Cruyff to suspend his contract

Ecuadorian football manager Carlos Galarza will request support from Directory of the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF) to propose to the Spanish Jordi Cruyff and Antonio Cordón that they temporarily suspend the contract that they maintain in Ecuador.

“Due to the crisis due to the pandemic of COVID-19, I will ask the Board for support to propose to the coaching staff of the senior team and Sports Management, the sensitivity to temporarily suspend by mutual agreement the signed contracts “, published the manager.

Galarza is part of the FEF Board of Directors, which he chairs Francisco Egas, and was recently appointed as president of the Arbitration Commission.

Cruyff signed his contract with the FEF as Ecuador's absolute coach at the beginning of the year, while Cordón did so last December as sports director.

Journalistic sources assured that this Monday, there will be a virtual meeting of the FEF Board of Directors and that Galarza will take the opportunity to formalize his proposal before his other colleagues.

For his part, Jaime Estrada, vice president of the Board of Directors, recently indicated that, although Egas was endorsed for the hiring of the technical staff, the FEF exceeded financially.

“The crisis we are going to enter is considerable, because there will be no America Cup. The idea is that the playoffs will be played in September, because we are already losing the money for March, because we will no longer play at home, “Estrada told reporters.

Cruyff arrived in Ecuador last January to start a process with a view to the South American qualifying rounds for el Qatar World Cup 2022 and for the Copa América that they will jointly organize Argentina and Colombia.

However, the coronavirus pandemic led to the decision of the South American Football Confederation (CSF), which suspended the Copa América for next year, while FIFA did so with the playoffs temporarily.

Cruyff has not yet been able to develop a training with his directed potentials and, due to the world crisis caused by the coronavirus, he recently moved to his residence in Spain.
