Due to the coronavirus, UEFA postponed the finals of the Champions League and Europa League

On Monday, UEFA made official the postponement of the finals of its continental club competitions, something that was already foreseen but had not yet been announced. The European body then postponed the decisive parties of the Champions League (male and female) and the Europa League which were scheduled for May.

The reason is that the advance of the coronavirus in Europe has frozen soccer and therefore has prevented teams from playing their corresponding commitments, so the schedule must be rearmed. The Champions League, for example, is still in the round of 16 as only four keys were completed and then only four teams got their ticket to the next round: RB Leipzig, Manchester CIty, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Atalanta.

The finals were scheduled for May, but now they will be held on another date that has not yet been reported: "No decision has yet been made on the reorganized dates. The working group, established last week as a result of the conference call between European football stakeholders, chaired by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, will analyze the options available. The group has already begun its examination of the calendar. Announcements will be made in due course ”, indicates the statement published this Monday.

The Champions League final was to be held on May 30 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Turkey, while the Europa League at the Polish venue Gdansk Stadium on May 27. It is still unknown whether the activity will be resumed for those dates.

In this way, UEFA has already postponed its most important championships, since last week it had announced that Euro 2020 will be played in 2021. In this way, the body has found a gap in the calendar during which, surely, it will make up for lost time due to pandemic.

Meanwhile, the European leagues remain in custody. This Monday, precisely, Spain announced that the activity will not resume in early April, as it was estimated 15 days ago and therefore the interruption will remain indefinitely, as in France.
