Due to injury, Jon Jones’ match against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 was canceled.

Due to injury, Jon Jones’ match against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 was canceled.

After Jones tore his pectoral tendon from the bone during training, their battle for the UFC heavyweight title scheduled for next month in New York will no longer take place.

Jones was hurt on Monday during a training session, according to UFC President Dana White. The highly anticipated main fight of UFC 295 on November 11 at Madison Square Garden will not take place because the heavyweight champion requires surgery and will be out for at least eight months.

With a record 14 championship victories under his belt and an unprecedented 18-match winning streak, Jones has established himself as the top light heavyweight fighter in the UFC. With one no-contest under his belt, Jones has a 26-1 record.

Jones declared that he wanted Miocic, the second-ranked competitor and the best heavyweight of all time, following that match. White said a fight would happen, and MSG was given a time and date.

In the main attraction of UFC 285 in March, Jones returned to the UFC after a three-year hiatus and stepped up to the organization’s highest weight class to submit Ciryl Game and claim the vacant championship.

Alexander Volkanovski, an Australian star and the featherweight champion, stepped up on short notice after Charles Oliveria was forced to withdraw from his lightweight title match with Islam Makhachev in UFC 294 due to injury.

Volkanovski was unfortunately knocked out by Makhachev in the opening round, thus things didn’t go as planned.

Due to Paulo Costa’s sudden withdrawal from his fight against Khamzat Chimaev because of a dangerous staph illness, the main event’s co-main event of UFC 294 also had to undergo a last-minute rematch.

Former middleweight champion Kamaru Usman entered the contest with even less advance notice than Volkanovski, but Chimaev ultimately won on the scorecards.

Jon Jones will not be making his eagerly anticipated championship defense against Stipe Miocic the UFC 295 next month, according to UFC CEO Dana White.

According to reports, the current heavyweight champion tore his pec tendon severely while training wrestlers, necessitating surgery.

According to White’s information, Jones appears to have a painful pectoralis major tendon injury. This kind of injury usually affects weightlifters as a result of abrupt or eccentric stresses.

Surgery is necessary once the muscle of the pectoralis major is torn from the shoulder bone because the muscle tissue retracts the tendon.

Natural healing is therefore not possible. However, full wellness could be achieved in around 6–9 months with prompt care.

Jon Jones may be out for up to 8 months, according to a video released on X by Dana White.

This time frame is compatible with the duration of rehabilitation that is medically advised, and Jones will need to go through physical therapy following surgery.

The headliners for UFC 295 will be Jiri Prochazka vs Alex Pereira, according to the UFC CEO.

Sergei Pavlovich will challenge Tom Aspinall for an interim heavyweight title in the co-main event.

Jones-Miocic will now be the co-main event, with Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira competing for the vacant lighthearted heavyweight title. Sergei Pavlovich with Tom Aspinall will now fight for the temporary light heavyweight championship.

Miocic has also been fully eliminated from the card as a result of Jones’ injury. After Jones recovers from his injury, it is hoped that the UFC would reschedule Jones vs. Miocic for sometime in 2024, according to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.

After Jones won the championship in his first fight at the weight class in March at UFC 285 by choking off Ciryl Game in the opening round, the bout was scheduled to be his first defense of the heavyweight title.

Since losing the heavyweight championship to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 early March 2021, Miocic hasn’t competed inside the Octagon.
