Double trouble for Sweden

Sweden is not having a few easy days in the week leading up to its showdown against Spain on Monday at La Cartuja (9pm CEST). First were the positives of Kulusevski and Svanberg last Tuesday and now it is the turn for injuries: Albin Ekdal and Jens Cajuste are doubtful against La Roja.

Ekdal didn't even work out in Saturday's session at Gothia Park Academy in Gothenburg, which started at 11:15 a.m. It was a precaution, because he drags pain after a blow he received in training on Thursday. His presence is important in the Swedes, so Janne Andersson is taking care of him so that he is in top condition.

In the case of Cajuste, it is more complicated to be 100% on Monday. He had to withdraw from the session within half an hour of starting some shooting exercises. He bent his ankle, they bandaged him and had to help him leave the field of play. In the absence of further evidence, the Swedish medical services reported that he suffers “a mild ankle sprain”. He is not a regular starter (he is 21 years old and has only played four games for the senior team) so his absence would not mean too much of a problem for the coach.

The good news for Sweden is that since Tuesday, when the two positives were known, all the players have tested negative in the PCR test that have been done on a daily basis. Therefore, although they are still taking extreme precautions, the risk of an outbreak is less with each passing day.

Sweden travels to Seville this Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday he will train at La Cartuja in Seville, the scene of the match against Spain on Monday.
