Domènec Torrent makes his debut with a defeat at the head of Galatasaray

Domènec Torrent has not had the dream debut at the helm of Galatasaray. The Catalan coach officially took over the reins of the team on Friday and today he was unable to avoid the defeat against Hatayspor in the Turkish Super League match (4-2).

Galatasaray started the Torrent era well when Emre Kilinc opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Then Patrick van Aanholt made it 0-2 but wasted a penalty (26′).

Shortly before the break (43′), Mame Biram Diouf did convert his penalty and make it 1-1. But before the first half was over, Galatasaray took the lead again thanks to Kerem Akturkoglu’s goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

After the break, Hatayspor leveled again through Mohammed Kamara (62′) and turned the score around with a goal from Saba Lobzhanidze (79′).

The red to Taylan Antalyali in the 82nd minute finished off Galatasaray, who conceded 4-2 in stoppage time with Lobzhanidze’s second goal.

Torrent, Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Barça, Bayern and Manchester City before taking over the reins at NY City FC and Flamengo, took over from the sacked Fatih Terim and put into practice a 3-4-3 on his debut in Turkey.

The historic Galatasaray, the team that has won the Super League of the Ottoman country the most times (22), does not raise its head: it lost a place in the table of the Turkish Super League, it is 13th, 23 points behind the leader Trabzonspor, and will receive the Kasimpasa on Thursday .
