MADRID, 16 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic surrendered to the quality and mentality of Carlos Alcaraz after losing to the Spanish this Sunday in the Wimbledon final, a defeat “difficult to digest” but from which he hopes to return “stronger”.
“It hasn’t been a good afternoon for me, a good one for Carlos, but I have to start giving Carlos all the credit for the end of the game, a great game, a high level, to close. You’re incredible, the way you adapt to the grass It is incredible what you have done. Good job”, he said in the interview after the final.
The Serbian began commanding and withstood the Spanish push to send the match to the fifth set, where Alcaraz proved that he was called to great heights. “For me, I never like to lose these matches, with all these emotions, but I have to be thankful. I have won many close matches in the past,” he confessed.
“I’ll be more positive tomorrow. It’s hard to digest a loss like that, when you’re so close, but I’m working to be in these finals, on the most important tracks. I’ve had great victories and this is another historic date for my career. I didn’t win but I lost against a better rival. I have to turn the page and I hope to come back stronger”, he added, before collapsing when addressing his family.
