Djokovic will seek his eighth Wimbledon title against Alcaraz or Medvedev

The Serbian strikes down the Italian Jannik Sinner and will play his ninth final in London

MADRID, 14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has reached the final of the Wimbledon tournament this Friday, the third ‘Grand Slam’ of the season and the only one on grass, after beating the Italian Jannik Sinner in the semifinals (6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (4)), and he is already waiting for the winner of the duel between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev to seek his eighth title in London.

In his ninth final at the All England Club and number 35 in ‘big’, Djokovic will try to enter the Olympus of world tennis with his 24th ‘Grand Slam’, just one month after becoming the man with the most titles in this category at Roland Garros by breaking the tie with Rafa Nadal (22).

In a new appointment on center court, the Balkan defended against two ‘break’ balls against him in the initial game before breaking in the next, a blow that was enough to win the sleeve, where, except for that moment, Sinner he showed immaculate play.

The world number two broke the transalpine serve again in the third game of the second set, just before the chair umpire stopped a point due to a shout from the Serb, who was penalized. Despite everything, he remained calm to take a new partial.

Equality also marked the third set, where Djokovic missed three break points at 1-1 before also neutralizing two set points for Sinner at 5-4. Everything had to be resolved in the ‘tie-break’, in which the Balkan made use of his experience to close the contest in two hours and 47 minutes of play.

In this way, Djokovic will try to win his eighth Wimbledon title on Sunday (2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022), which would allow him to match the Swiss Roger Federer, who has eight wounds. If he manages to prevail, he would lift his 24th ‘Grand Slam’, becoming the person, man or woman, with the most ‘greatest’ in history after breaking the tie with the American Serena Williams (23).
