Djokovic sweeps, Federer traces and Barty and Kvitova meet in quarters

MADRID, Jan. 26 (SportsFinding) –

The Serbian Novak Djokovic has advanced this Sunday to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the first 'Grand Slam' of the season, after defeating the Argentine Diego Schwartzman (6-3, 6-4, 6-4), in a day in which the Swiss Roger Federer had to go back to Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2) and in which the Australian Ashleigh Barty and the Czech Petra Kvitova were cited in the next round.

The defending champion, who is looking for his eighth title in Melbourne, signed his pass to his 46th quarter of a 'big' in two hours and six minutes, in which he managed to neutralize the 'cannon shots' of the Buenos Aires and win 75% of the points with his first service and 68% with the second.

A lonely break in the eighth game, the first one he had in the clash, was worth the number two in the world to take the first set. His brilliant start of the second round (3-0) was only interrupted by the only 'break' achieved by the Argentine, who did not prevent his victory on the set.

In the third, 'Nole' was also enough of a break in the fifth game to close the duel. Now, he will face Canadian Milos Raonic, who beat Croatian Marin Cilic (6-4, 6-3, 7-5). The Balkan has imposed himself on the American in the nine occasions in which the faces have been seen.

For his part, Federer needed four sets to defeat Fucsovics, get his 101 victory in Australia and meet with American Tennys Sandgren, executioner of Italian Fabio Fognini (7-6 (5), 7-5, 6-7 (2) , 6-4), in rooms.

Fucsovics got ahead in the clash with a 'break' that allowed him to win the first set, but since then he was overwhelmed by world number three. With two breaks, the Swiss tied the contest in the second set, and took, in just over half an hour each, the next two sleeves.

BARTY AND KVITOVA WILL CHOCAR IN ROOMS

In the women's team, Australian Ashleigh Barty, world number one and champion of the WTA Finals, needed three sets to beat American Alison Riske (6-3, 1-6, 6-4), 19 of the ranking and that last year he surpassed it in the same round of Wimbledon.

The ocean could take its revenge in a duel in which it began sending, but that was balanced after the North American was awarded the second set thanks to two breaks. Thus, Barty had to wait until the tenth game of the third set to seal, to the rest, his victory in one hour and 38 minutes of play.

His rival in the quarter will be number 8 of the WTA ranking, the Czech Petra Kvitova, who suffered to break the Greek Maria Sakkari (6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2). Kvitova, who had not yet lost a set in Melbourne, fell in the 'tie-break' of the first round and was forced to overcome against tennis player Helena, who lowered his performance beyond the equator of the match. In this way, Barty and Kvitova will reissue the quarterfinal of 2018, when the Czech managed to prevail.

Meanwhile, the American Sofia Kenin sealed her pass at the expense of her 15-year-old countryman 'Coco' Gauff (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-0) and will face in the next round the great revelation of the tournament , the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who defeated the Chinese Qiang Wang (7-6 (4), 6-1).
