Novak Djokovic made history this Monday after becoming the tennis player with the most weeks as number 1 in the ATP ranking with 311 beating Roger Federer's record that the Swiss held with 310.
Speaking to the NDTV network, Djokovic was asked about his two great rivals in the battle to be the best in history, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal, and who was the most difficult opponent for him. “Both Federer and Nadal have been very special in my career. It is difficult to choose one of them as my biggest rival because I always have to compete against them and they are very dominant and consistent.”
Despite the difficulty in choosing Federer or Nadal as the toughest rival, Djokovic did not skimp on praise for both players, ensuring that they have allowed him to grow as a player. “They have different styles of tennis and also how they behave on and off the court, and I have to adapt to them. These two guys have made me a better player.”
Finally Djokovic reviewed how he lived the historic moment in which he became the tennis player with the most weeks at the head of the ATP ranking. “The achievement of becoming the tennis player with the longest weeks at number one is something I had dreamed of when I was a child and started playing tennis. It is a tribute to love and commitment to the sport.”
