Djokovic reaches 22 ‘Grand Slams’ from Nadal and extends his lead in ‘big titles’

MADRID, 29 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who was crowned this Sunday in the Australian Open final against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5)), has conquered his ‘Grand Slam ‘ number 22, equaling those of the Spanish Rafa Nadal, until now the one who had the most in the history of men’s tennis, and extends his leadership in ‘big titles’.

The ‘great’ oceanic, tenth of his record, has increased his ‘great titles’ to 66, a category established by the ATP and which includes trophies of ‘Grand Slam’, the ATP Finals, the Masters 1,000 and the Olympic gold medals in individual mode.

Thus, the new number one in the world -who will begin his 374th week at the top of the circuit this Monday- already has 22 ‘big ones’, six ATP Finals and 38 Masters 1,000, and leads Spanish Rafa Nadal by seven major trophies (59; 22+0+36+1 Olympic gold) and in twelve the Swiss Roger Federer (54; 20+6+28), retired last season after the Laver Cup.

Djokovic has won a ‘great title’ for every 3.2 tournaments played (66/210), while Nadal has won one for every 3.5 tournaments in which he has participated (59/208). The only players to have won a ‘big title’ with a ratio of more than one in five events played were Federer (4.4, 54/240) and Pete Sampras (4.9, 30/147).

In addition, the Balkan has been the third oldest man of the Open Era to win the Australian Open, only behind Ken Rosewall and Federer, who did it at 36 years of age.
