Djokovic leaves his presence in the air at the Australian Open

MADRID, 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, world number one, has not revealed if he will go to Melbourne to defend his Australian Open title, the first ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, after the state of Victoria announced that all travelers arriving to the place they had to have the complete vaccination schedule against the coronavirus.

“I have not spoken to Tennis Australia, to be honest. I was just waiting to know what the news was; now that I know, we will have to wait and see,” he told reporters after his loss to German Alexander Zverev (7-6 ( 4), 4-6, 6-3) in the semifinals of the ATP Finals in Turin.

The nine-time Australian Open champion has always refused to reveal whether or not he has been immunized. In addition, he was one of the tennis players who criticized the conditions that athletes endured before last year’s ‘big’ ocean, with strict quarantine measures.

On that occasion, the Australian Open was held in February, rather than in its usual January location, and with no fans in the stands for most of the tournament, after a sudden lockdown in Melbourne due to COVID- 19.
