Djokovic could resign from the US Open to play Roland Garros

Novak Djokovic could resign from playing the US Open 2020 (August 31 – September 13), one of the great appointments of the tennis calendar, to focus on Roland Garros. This was hinted at by the number one in the world in statements to the Serbian television channel RTS.

Djokovic believes that the restrictions that could take place in New York for the celebration of the US Open due to the coronavirus pandemic would be extreme. “Most of the players I have spoken to have been negative about whether they will play there,” said Djokovic.

And is that the tennis players who are going to play in New York would have to undergo measures such as passing 14 days quarantine, have restricted access to the tracks to train, only one companion during games and the limitation to move around New YorkThey could only stay in hotels in the Queen's area and could not visit the Manhattan area. “These are extreme conditions to play. That is not sustainable.”

In fact, the Serbian said that other reasons why he could resign from the US Open would be for focus on preparing for the clay season with the goal of storming Roland Garros (September 20 – October 4). “As things stand, the season for me will most likely continue on clay in early September.”
