The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic believes that “there are no doubts” that at this moment the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated him in the semifinals of the Mutua Madrid Open, is “the best in the world”, while the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas sees the Murcian as “a source of inspiration”.
“Certainly, he is a special player, he has already broken several records when he was a teenager and won two Masters 1,000 and two ATP 500 this year. Until now he is the best player in the world, there is no doubt”, Djokovic was honest in a previous press conference to his participation in the Rome Masters 1,000 collected by the tournament website.
In this sense, the man from Belgrade believes that he played “very well” in his defeat against the Murcian in the semifinals of the Mutua Madrid Open. “Physically I felt one hundred percent, even after almost three and a half hours of battling against such a good player. I recovered well the next day and that is a positive and encouraging factor for Rome and also, of course, for facing the great objective that is Roland Garros”, he underlined.
In the Foro Italico the faces could be seen again with Rafa Nadal. “Knowing how good he is on clay, every win I have against Rafa on this surface is a highlight of my appearances here in Rome,” he explained.
“I am in the right direction, I know I can play better and better. Usually on the court I am very self-critical, but actually the level of my tennis is currently very high. I hope to keep it that way during this week because I am confident. for this tournament”, added ‘Nole’.
For his part, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas also praised Carlos Alcaraz. “His tennis is impressive and full of energy in every shot. He is very fast and has an impressive reactivity even when reading game situations. He is hungry and I am sure he will also know how to manage the responsibilities that he will have from now on”, he pointed out.
“He is a source of inspiration for me, I would like to be like him. He is already doing very well and I know he will still grow very fast. The results speak for him and show that he is now one of the strongest players in the world. Now there are a lot of competition up top and I hope to continue concentrating as I have been in the last two seasons,” he said.
