Djokovic and Ivanisevic separate paths

MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, current world number one and winner of 24 ‘Grand Slams’, announced this Wednesday that the Croatian Goran Ivanisevic has stopped being part of his team, in which he had been since 2019, since 2022 as its main coach .

“Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our chemistry on the court had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid. In fact, I’m proud to say that in addition to winning tournaments together, we also had a battle parallel in Parcheesi for many years. And that tournament never stops for us,” said the one from Belgrade in a post on ‘Instagram’.

The winner of 24 Grand Slams “clearly remembers the moment” when he invited the 2001 Wimbledon champion “to be part” of his team. “It was in 2018, and Marian (Vajda, then his head coach) and I were looking to innovate and bring some service magic to our duo,” he noted.

“In fact, we brought not only service, but also a lot of laughter, fun, year-end number one rankings, record achievements and 12 more Grand Slams (and a few finals) since then. Did I mention a little drama too?” ‘Nole’ confessed about his time with the Croatian, one of the great scorers during his time as a player.

Goran Ivanisevic arrived in Djokovic’s work team in 2019 and in 2022 he remained as his main coach after the goodbye of Vajda, with whom the one from Belgrade had been since 2006. The start of the season for the world number one is not being the better after falling in the semifinals of the Australian Open against the Italian Jannik Sinner and in his second match of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells (United States) against the also Italian Luca Nardi.
