Discussion in Serie A: there are clubs that want to train now

Serie A hopes to resume their competitions in May, but there are already more reasons for discussion between the clubs, which have broken up again: training. The president of Lazio, Claudio Lotito, considers that in safety conditions the teams can return to work, and Aurelio De Laurentiis, from Naples, is with him. The two teams theoretically start on Monday as MilanHowever, the date will move depending on the health situation, at this desperate moment.

The sports doctors' federation, on the other hand, urged the teams to “interrupt all group training until at least April 3”, and the mica Lamica ’, the Italian medical soccer association chaired by Enrico Castellacci, former head of the Nazionale, did the same: “We express all our disagreement on the idea of starting training prematurely, until before April 3”.

Already on March 13, Lotito and Juventus president Agnelli discussed the matter. “You think more about the classification than the health of your footballers,” said the bianconero, who has the support of several presidents, including Inter, and they should be the majority.

Tomorrow there will be a league meeting by conference call and the criteria will be unified: group work will be resumed in the first days of April. A question of inevitable equity, considering that up to seven groups are quarantined due to coronavirus cases (Atalanta, Fiorentina, Juventus, Inter, Sampdoria, Udinese and Verona).

The current decree, however, allows athletes of national interest to train in closed-door facilities and maintain safe distances, and individual sessions on the field may resume before April.. All this if the Government does not decide to approve even stricter regulations: with 35,713 infected in the country and almost 3,000 deaths, no one excludes it.

Italian Prime Minister

Italian Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora has indicated May 3 as “a possible date” for Series A to resume its activityAlthough it would be “difficult” to do it with fans, while supporting the possibility that the stars reduce wages to help their clubs combat the financial damage caused by the coronavirus.

“As of today, May 3 is a possible (restart) date, but I would not say that it is safe, and it is difficult to think that we could have games with fans”, Spadafora said in statements to the Rai 3 station.

Series A played a closed day before being closed from March 9 to April 3, along with all sports activities, as the country went into full closure until April 25. Italy, the European country most affected by the coronavirus, has registered almost 3,000 deaths and nearly 36,000 infected, including 13 Serie A players.

Spadafora also backed an initial proposal by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to cut big wages. “I totally agree with the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina. The salaries of the soccer players will not be a taboo subject. I would not even put it on the list of problems,” warned the politician.
