Diego Martínez continues to break records

Diego Martínez continues to break records with Granada. The latter was almost 46 years old. The coach from Vigo has managed to overcome the 68 uninterrupted games in the First Division held by José Iglesias ‘Joseito’ in the 1974-75 season. The last of these matches was played at the Helmántico stadium in Salamanca on 5-5-1975 (1-0 for the charro team). Diego Martínez improved this record last Thursday against Eibar. 69 games in these two seasons.

Esra is not the only record beaten by this coach that is making Granada live the best moments in its history. These are some of his records.

He ended the curse of the Eibar. Granada did not beat Eibar since 8-31-1986. (2-0 in a Segunda B match, both goals scored by Manolo). Almost 35 years later, Diego Martínez broke a bad coffee badge on the Ganad fans.

The old record of Joaquín Peiró. The ‘Galgo del Metropolitano’, who died a year ago, had managed to link no less than 103 uninterrupted games, counting two campaigns in Second B and 21 in Second. A figure pulverized by Diego Martínez that already accumulates 139 meetings and rising.

Consecutive seasons. Diego Martínez will be the first coach in the history of Granada to complete three seasons at once, that is, from the first to the last game. Historically, the rojiblanco bench was almost an electric chair.

51 matches. Spanish team that has played the most matches in a season and only behind in all Europe of Tottenham and Manchester United who have played just two more.

Continental classification. Granada has played for the first time in the Europa League and reached the quarter-finals. He has played 15 games.

Coaches Gate. For these and many more reasons, Diego Martínez shares honors in this emblematic access to Los Cármenes with Joseito, who led 206 games to Granada.

Renewal. The coach has said that he will wait until the end of the League to “give us some time before making a decision.”
