Nice won the Côte d'Azur derby on Saturday and led to the first defeat of Argentine Jorge Sampaoli as coach of Marseille (3-0), in a match of the 30th day of Ligue 1.
Kephren Thuram led the way to victory for Nice, who finished the game in the second half. Amine Gouiri in 74 'and Alexis Claude Maurice in 91' scored the goals that rounded off the win and frustrated the team from Marseille, who left the European positions, as they dropped to sixth place.
Gouiri was instrumental in his team's victory, not only did he score Nice's second goal against Marseille, but also gave Thuram the assist for the first. The 21-year-old French striker was a constant nightmare for Álvaro González.
Sampaoli's side, who had revived Marseille with praised victories against Brest and Rennes, suffered their first setback against a rising team. Nice has reacted in recent games to settle in the middle of the standings, far from relegation, in tenth place in the table.
