BARCELONA, July 19. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –
The Spanish swimmer Dennis González assured that he took a risk by changing the routine ahead of the free solo final of the Fukuoka 2023 World Championship to finally achieve a gold medal that leaves him proud and excited.
“I am super excited because I came from fourth place and I made many changes from the preliminary to this final. I have risked a lot to achieve the gold and I have achieved it. I am super proud of the work done and even more so after the gold,” he said in statements provided by the RFEN.
For the man from Barcelona, winning gold was a “super special” moment. “I was looking forward to swimming in the final because I changed things in the semifinal, I prepared this new thing to be able to achieve this position since I came from a fourth position. I have worked a lot for this and achieving gold is very exciting,” he stressed.
“On the podium I thought about all that I have fought for this moment, preparing myself. And I was nervous about the changes. I thought a lot about my mother, who has made a huge effort for me to achieve this and I am proud to give her this joy,” he said.
Dennis González is the first world champion in the artistic swimming free solo routine thanks to his good performance in the final of the Fukuoka 2023 World Championship, in which he beat the Colombian Gustavo Sánchez and the American Kenneth Gaudet, silver and bronze respectively.
