The 101st Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will be held from March 21 to 27, 2022 and has already defined all its stages with two high mountains and with the return of Boí Taüll, and with locations that will debut in a Catalan round that will be again an important appointment in the first quarter of the UCI WorldTour calendar.
The Volta 101 presents new features in almost all of its entirety, starting with the great start of the test in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which takes over from Calella after nine consecutive starts in the town of Maresme.
In the second stage, L’Escala will debut for the first time on the Volta as a start, while in the second stage there will also be a long-awaited return, the arrival in Catalunya Nord, in Perpinyà, where the Volta has not stopped since 1955. .
After having Vallter 2000 and Port Ainé as high arrivals in the 100th edition, the high mountains also changed in the 2022 edition with the arrivals at La Molina, usual in the Volta and with departure in Perpinyà, and Boí Taüll, station that for 20 years did not have an end of the Catalan round Volta and in a stage that starts at La Seu d’Urgell.
While La Pobla de Segur repeats as a departure compared to the last edition, the arrival in Vilanova i la Geltrú six years later also represents an incentive for the Volta, in a municipality with a great cycling tradition, and in which in all probability it will be the longest stage of the test.
The penultimate stage will mean the discovery of the Costa Daurada of Tarragona, starting and ending in the coastal towns of Salou and Cambrils, and entering the interior of the Prades and Montsant mountains.
Finally, Barcelona will once again be the final stage of the competition and, if not already, the general classification will be fully defined, as well as the prestigious stage victory in the Catalan capital after the demanding Montjuïc circuit.
