DeChambeau becomes the leader of the US Open golf and Sergio García falls behind

MADRID, 16 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The American golfer Bryson DeChambeau will face as leader this Sunday the last day of the United States Open, the third ‘major’ of the season that is being played on the Pinehurst course, while the Spanish Sergio García was left behind after the dispute of the third day.

DeChambeau, champion of this ‘big’ in 2020, remains very solid on the North Carolina course and once again signed a third day under par to take the lead. The American shot 67, three under par, and was -7 before the decisive Sunday.

The one started with a bogey on the 4th before stringing together five birdies. Then came his main drawback of the day, a ‘double-bogey’ on the 16th, which he managed to quickly compensate with a final ‘birdie’ on the par-3 17th hole to emerge as the leader with three shots ahead of his compatriot. Patrick Cantlay, the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, penalized for two bogeys in the last four holes, and the Frenchman Matthieu Pavon.

For his part, the Spanish Sergio García is, with +1, eight shots behind DeChambeau after a new day where he could not get below par on the demanding Pinehurst course. The one from Borriol, who is still close to the ‘Top 10’, delivered a third card of 71 strokes, one over par, although he knew how to recover from a bad start. The man from Castellón made three bogeys in the first four holes, but he recovered and made three birdies, although he could not avoid a new bogey in between.

The other Spanish player in contention in this United States Open, David Puig, continues from less to more after his bad start and was once again below par with a card of 69 strokes (-1) to place himself with an aggregate of +3. The Catalan started Saturday very successful, with three birdies in the first four holes, then he had a major slowdown with three bogeys in a row from 6 to 8 and although he again achieved two birdies in the second part of the course, He couldn’t avoid a new ‘bogey’ on the 16th.
