De Paul: “Correa played with a very swollen ankle”

MADRID, 11 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Atlético de Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul confessed that the victory (2-1) against Cádiz was hard, but he showed the commitment, with Ángel Correa playing with a “very swollen ankle”, and the good run of the rojiblancos, before to visit United.

“When there are few games left, each one has a goal and the teams play a lot, we had the character to pull it off, we could do better,” he told Movistar Plus, after the league game at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Argentine was the author of the 2-1 in the 68th minute, suffering more than Joao Félix’s early goal announced. “After the 1-0 win, the game took on a different dynamic, Cádiz had to go looking for it. We missed some passes at the start, these are things that can be improved, but it’s the fourth win in a row, that gives a lot of confidence,” he said.

“It’s been a long time since the goal came, it’s nice to score, I’m happy because it served to win. It’s a test every day to wear this shirt,” he added, before praising Félix and Correa. “Joao is in a great moment, just like Ángel, who played with a very swollen ankle, he shows what Atlético is, that’s why he’s been at this club for so many years. I don’t know how he managed to put on the boot and that’s why it’s so important for this team,” he said.

De Paul was referring to Tuesday’s duel in Manchester for a ticket to the Champions League quarter-finals. “The important thing was to win to value what we have been doing and that confidence has to serve us for the next game. We are very excited about going through, hopefully we can have a great game”, he concluded.
