Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich retired from his round of 16 match at the Canadian Masters 1000 in Montreal on Saturday during the third set against Italian Matteo Arnaldi.
The elimination of ‘Foki’ left the sixth Masters 1000 of the season without any Spaniards. The Malaga native started ahead by winning the first set and had his chances of taking victory in a close second set, although his serve was unreliable.
The Italian forced a third by clearly winning the tie-break and, after losing his serve and with a 3-0 deficit (4-6, 7-6(5), 3-0), the Spaniard ended his participation in Montreal with some apparent discomfort in his knee.
The Malaga native, who withdrew from the Olympic Games due to lower back pain, is not feeling comfortable on the North American hard court tour leading up to the US Open which starts in two weeks, where he has combined good victories, such as the one a few days ago against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, with tough defeats with the quarter-finals in Atlanta as his best result.
