Davidovich succumbs against Paul in the round of 32 of the US Open

MADRID, 1 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was eliminated this Friday in the round of 32 of the US Open, the fourth ‘Grand Slam’ of the season and which is played on a hard court in New York (United States), after losing 6-1, 6 -0, 3-6 and 6-3 against the American Tommy Paul.

On the track of the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Davidovich fell before a rival who has taken his measure. He has faced Paul three times in his career and the man from Malaga has reaped three defeats. The last one, for this third round at the Flushing Meadows facilities, crystallized after two hours and 20 minutes.

Although ‘Foki’ started the game with a 15-40 score, that was a mirage and he almost never felt comfortable. Not in vain, the local player saved both ‘break’ options and to top it off he took advantage of his only one in the subsequent game (2-0). Without hassles in his turns of service and with the score in favor, Paul extended the lead and soon sealed the opening set.

Very blurred with the ‘drive’, the Andalusian gave up his service as soon as the next sleeve began and was already in tow all the time. He fought a lot in the third game, but his opponent also broke (3-0) and paved the way to triumph in the second set.

Hope for ‘Foki’ came in the third set, urging Paul and above all displaying the temperance that he had lacked in previous rallies. He broke in the fourth chapter (1-3), enough income to win that third set in the end and plead for a battling start in the fourth.

However, the momentum of the man from Malaga was on the brink, without settling a ‘break’ ball that he had in his locker. In addition, the American went 3-1 up with a break that he did know how to make and, later, manage with skill. The 6-3, at the time final, gave Paul the ticket to the round of 16.
