Davidovich rules out playing in Australia after having passed the covid

The Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich, number 52 of the ATP, announced this Monday that rules out playing the Australian Open, first Grand Slam of the year that is scheduled to start on February 8, due to the fact that the covid-19 disease has just passed and it would be hasty to face that tournament.

The 21-year-old from Malaga said in a statement that both he and his coach, Jorge Aguirre, tested positive for coronavirus fourteen days ago and that for this reason they could not travel to Melbourne last Thursday. Davidovich points out that his trainer has had mild symptoms and that he is “practically asymptomatic”.

The tennis player points out that they studied the possibility of forcing the trip but that they ruled out not consider it advisable to play a tournament of that level and with matches to five sets, which would lead to a probable injury. Davidovich is “sad” for not being in the first Grand Slam of the year but also “happy” for having overcome the disease.

The Malaga, who was proclaimed junior champion of Wimbledon in 2017, is currently the fifth Spanish player in the world ranking after Rafa Nadal, Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño and Albert Ramos.
