Alejandro Davidovich, who participates these days in the Andalucía Open (this Thursday at 12:00 he has a round of 16 match against Lithuanian Ivashka), has revealed in Marbella his other great passion, the welfare of animals. A desire of the Malaga tennis player that has materialized in a project whose preparation has lasted months and now sees the light: adoptas.org. Its objective is to take advantage of the visibility that the tennis player enjoys to contribute with the Spanish protectors to speed up the adoption process of foster animals and raise funds directly from the donor. At the same time, the initiative aims to sensitize and educate younger generations about the importance of adopting animals instead of buying.
“Announcing this makes me more nervous than playing. I do it for the love of animals and because I am outraged by the abandonments. After confinement due to the pandemic there have been many, a brutal growth of 25%”, explains Alejandro, supported by data that they corroborate it. Every year around 300,000 pets are abandoned in Spain: guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, and all kinds of pets, but especially dogs and cats. Adoptas.org was born as a platform determined to help change this situation, allowing users to connect animal search engines with animal shelters and protectors throughout Spain.
And where does the Andalusian player's love for pets come from? “As a child, although they didn't let me have animals because my mother told me they gave me allergies, I would play for hours after school with a dog that would come to my door and scratch it. If I see an abandoned animal, I go to a supermarket and give it to him. I buy something to feed him and if he is very bad, I call a protector. They are not stuffed animals and cannot be abused. I have two cats and for me they are like children, I would never think of abandoning them or hurting them, “he says.
“On Adoptas.org We already have more than 50 animals registered in our network and we hope that many more protectors decide to join us so that this number grows in the coming weeks. and the project takes shape as soon as possible “, explains Davidovich, who details the means of contact:” For any information, people can contact us on the platform and at the email info@adoptas.org “. At the moment, in the circuit nobody collaborates with the project: “I know tennis players who are also 'animal lovers', but I'm alone in this, although the doors are open for them in the future.” Apart from the world of tennis, his mother, Tatiana Fokina, and the Italian Francesco Vanni, who leads the communication, collaborate with him.
