The Italian cyclist Davide Cimolai, until now in the ranks of Team Cofidis, will ride with the Movistar Team in the 2024 season, the Spanish team confirmed this Saturday.
The 34-year-old from Pordenone has almost a dozen triumphs, including a stage in Paris-Nice (2015), two partial races in Catalonia (2016 and 2017) and the overall victory in the Vuelta a Castilla y León (2019). “'Cimo' has been, especially in recent years, a wonderful guide for the sprinters with whom he has shared a squad, a skilled roller and explosive man with good speed,” said Movistar.
Cimolai acknowledged that he even considered retreating before the telephone squad knocked on his door. “In my heart I felt happy and satisfied that my career had ended in 2023, since the last few months have been very hard from a mental point of view and I had already adopted the course of not continuing,” he said.
“I was only going to continue if an offer came from an important team, and with Movistar Team that is the case. It is an honor and a joy to be part of a team with this prestige, in which I am sure I will find the right environment and recover the confidence and enthusiasm that I had lost,” he added.
