David Martín: “It’s a very sweet gold, sport has put us in our place”

The water polo coach praises his team for coming back from the lost finals

MADRID, 3 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish water polo coach, David Martín, was euphoric with the gold achieved this Sunday in the 2022 World Cup final against Italy, on penalties, a “very sweet” metal after the last setbacks, from which he knew how to lift his equipment.

“This gold tastes sweet, very good. I think this team deserves it, the players have worked hard. I’m not only proud of the gold but of how the team has risen every time it has lost a final, that we have reached another , and another,” he said.

Spain was proclaimed three-time world champion with a sweet vendetta after staying with honey on their lips in recent years. “Very proud, they deserve it. They have worked hard and in the end the sport has put us in our place,” added a Martin who led Spanish men’s water polo to regain the world throne 21 years later.
