David Cantero and Isabel Jiménez, 13 years of “ideal couple” and a separation due to “horns” on Telecinco: “It has been hard”

The new Telecinco News stage has meant a change of life for David Cantero. After 13 years presenting the daily 3:00 p.m. edition, with Isabel Jiménez, the network has relocated it to the weekend. It opens this Saturday and will have Leticia Iglesias y Pepe Ribagorda like new colleagues on the news.

“I was very sad to separate from Isabel, because we have formed an ideal couple on a television and personal level,” explains the presenter. “We have become very friends and we have not had the slightest friction in this time,” he comments about Jiménez, who now works in tandem with White Angels Monday to Friday. “Suddenly, this is over and not because we want it, but because they have cheated on us,” she jokes in reference to that change of partner that both of them face in front of the cameras. “It has been sad and hard, but we all know that these things happen and we are soldiers,” he says. “You have your time preferences, but in my case it didn't matter to me. I even want to be there on the weekend, I already know it. This is not new for me,” recalls the presenter, who for many years worked on Saturdays and Sundays at TVE. “A change is going to be good for me,” he considers. “I feel sorry for having to separate from Isabel, but we are going to continue seeing each other, because our relationship is now a friendship.”

“There is a kind of stupidity when talking about prime time, because it is not the most important news”

Cantero understands that there is a dance between presenters and considers that all news editions are equally important. “On television there is a kind of stupidity when talking about prime time… Because prime time is sometimes not the most important news nor the most difficult to do,” he explains. “This is not like before. Now the information doesn't stop and you have to give the same importance and enthusiasm to all editions.”

The new Telecinco News programs have started this week with a change of set, much more ambitious than the one before, because the new leadership of Mediaset has decided to bet on information, unlike the previous leaders. “Vasile had another line of management, [Alessandro] Salem has another vision and is making a resounding change to the network and I think it is right to make the news one of the pillars.definitely”.

With the new set, “we will be able to play in the league we are in, which is the Champions League, with the same means as the others.” “So far we've come out with the worst car and we still sometimes won,” she points out. “Now we are going to have a series of elements that are going to help us explain what we are telling,” he says, although he remembers that “the important thing is not the set or the screens, but who tells you things, how they tell it to you and that the presenter does not get lost in the immensity of that set”.

David Cantero He made the journey from TVE to Mediaset long before Carlos Franganillo, therefore, he knows the situation that his partner is experiencing these days of premiere in Mediaset. “He called me and I told him that he was going to feel very good. When you change from a public channel to a private one you feel a little strange,” he explains. “I think he is delighted and has reached a place where he can grow a lot”, keep going. “In addition, it has arrived at a time when there is a strong commitment to information, something that we greatly missed, although here they have always allowed us to work with a lot of freedom. Now, in addition to that, there is an economic bet, which is what it is about.”
