David Alonso wins in Austin and takes the lead from Holgado

MADRID, 14 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Colombian Moto3 rider David Alonso (Aspar Team) won this Sunday in the Grand Prix of the Americas, dominating from start to finish to also emerge as leader of the World Championship, taking the lead from the Spanish Dani Holgado (GasGas), who was second.

Alonso, winner of the opening round of the Championship in Lusail, once again climbed to the top of the box in a weekend of absolute dominance. Just like in the race, the Colombian had already led the way in each practice session and started from pole determined.

The new World Championship leader, by two points ahead of Holgado, escaped at the start and had a placid race, also avoiding the many falls that occurred from behind. The fight for the podium was the most attractive thing on Sunday in the small category, with Holgado passing his compatriot Ángel Piqueras.

The one from Leopard Racing lost to Holgado by 13 thousandths, while fourth was the Japanese Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets), who did not enter into that great give and take between the Spaniards in the last lap. David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports) finished in a great fifth position, although far from the fight for the podium.

Furthermore, last year’s winner, Spaniard Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets MSI), looked for a comeback starting thirteenth, but crashed early, getting on the wrong bike in his attempt to get back on the track quickly. The Valencian did not finish the race, in a bad weekend where he suffered technical problems, and saw the World Championship lead slip to 42 points.
