BARCELONA, 15 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The South African cyclist Daryl Impey (Israel-Premier Tech) has won this Wednesday the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse, disputed between the towns of Grenchen and Brunnen, of 190 kilometers, being the fastest of the peloton, while the British Stephen Williams ( Bahrain-Victorious) remains in the lead.
The last time Impey won a straight stage was in the 2019 Tour de France. Thus, at 37 years old, the South African snatched the victory from Michael Matthews (Team BikeExchange), so the Australian lost a another opportunity to win the day.
The last sprint with about forty riders decided the stage with a prize for Impey. The Italian Alberto Bettiol (EF), after the bad experience he suffered the day before when thinking that he had been first, was unable to complete the great work of his team and ended up relegated to fourth position, surpassed with authority, as well as by Matthews, by the Danish Kragh Andersen (DSM).
For his part, Gipuzkoan Alex Aranburu (Movistar Team) once again appeared at the top of the standings, although he lost ‘bellows’ in the final meters. Thus, he finished sixth behind the British Thomas Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers).
The yellow jersey will continue one more stage in the hands of Williams, the only leader who knows the 85th edition of the Swiss round. This Thursday the fifth day will be played between the towns of Ambri and Novazzano, with a route of 193 kilometers.
