Darío Silva, Kameni, Demichelis … 18 who played with Espanyol and Málaga

In addition to their blue and white colors, Espanyol and Malaga have several footballers in common. This Sunday the two will meet again in a match where Espanyol can rise if they win (and Almería and Leganés do not) and where Málaga can rush their little chances of sneaking into the playoff. These 18 players have been on both teams. They are not the only ones.

-Carlos Kameni. The Cameroonian goalkeeper spent eight years with the parakeets and five at La Rosaleda where he had to compete with Willy Caballero and Memo Ochoa. There is no record that he has retired from football.

-Darío Silva. After an inconsequential period with the Espanyolistas, he triumphed in a big way with Málaga on and off the pitch, forming the historic 'Double D' with Dely Valdés. He is currently part of the Cádiz sports department.

-Martin Demichelis. He only played two games with Espanyol and retired at Malaga. He has been working with the coaching staff of this team and with Bayern Munich.

-Sergio Sánchez. He lived great moments with Espanyol, Malaga and Seville. He retired after his apso for Albacete.

-Andrés Prieto. He played a game with Málaga at the Camp Nou and played a preseason game with Espanyol. Now he is in Birmingham, of the English Championshil (second category)

-Felipe Caicedo. The Ecuadorian played for Málaga in 2009-10 on loan from Sporting Lisbon. After three seasons with Espanyol, he is now in Lazio.

-José Juan Luque. This was a southpaw with a formidable kick. At Málaga he met stiff competition from Duda. He has coached in Hungary and Betis women.

-Valdo. He only spent one season at Malaga and another at Espanyol. He came to play with Cape Verde.

-Urbano Ortega. He played one season with Málaga in Segunda B in 1996-97. His best years were with Espanyol. Now he works in the sports management of Barcelona.

-Goyo Fonseca. International with Spain. One campaign with Málaga and two with Espanyol. Powerful forward, fighter and spectacular. Today he resides in Malaga.

-Jaime Molina. Defending. In 1987-88 he went to Club Deportivo Málaga. He had a period with Espanyol. He is now part of the coaching staff of the Shanghai Grenland of China.

-John Laurirden. A great Danish midfielder who moved to Málaga after not being called up by Javier Clemente in the 1988 UEFA Cup final against Bayer Leverkusen.

-Paco Fortes. In 1976-77 he played on loan from Barcelona at Malaga where he played 17 games. Good years at Espanyol and he ended up being the idol of the Portuguese Farense.

-Cabral. He was a good Paraguayan midfielder who played four seasons for Málaga. In 1971-72 he went to Espanyol but did not play a single game. He returned to Malaga where he set up a gym. He passed away in 1994.

-Roberto Rosales. The Venezuelan right-back became captain of Málaga and after relegation in 2017-18 he went to Espanyol. Now he is in Leganés.

-Rufete. As a Málaga player, he reached international status with Spain. League champion in 2004 with Valencia, he made excellent campaigns with Espanyol, of which he is currently the sports director.

-Sergi Darder. He was captured by the late Manel Casanova for the Malaga Academy. Schuster started him because they didn't bring him the midfielder he wanted, Bendtner. Sold for 12 million to Lyon (half went to an investment fund) is now the source of Espanyol.

-Keidi Bare. Forged in the Atlético quarry, the Albanian jumped in a short time from the subsidiary, Atlético Malagueño, to be indisputable with Málaga. His transfer to Espanyol relieved the Malaguista treasury.
