Brazilian defender Dante, 37, announced on Friday the renewal of his contract with Nice, a team he joined in August 2016 from German Wolfsburg and of which he is captain.
“I could not dream of anything better for Christmas. I will do my best every day to come back and continue helping Nice,” said the player on Twitter, who has been out since he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in early November.
The French club had promised to renew his contract before the injury and has kept his word, without specifying the extent of his link with the team.
Before wearing the Nice shirt, Dante had already played in the French League in the ranks of Lille, from where he moved to the Belgian League for the military at Charleroi and Standard de Liege. In Germany he also played for Borussia de Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich.
