Daniil Medvedev: the average tennis player

Daniil Medvedev was one of the great revelations in the world of tennis during the 2019 season, in which he conquered four titles, enters those that stand out the 1,000 Masters of Cincinnati and Shanghai, and became number 4 in the ranking, in addition to reaching the final of the US Open, where he fell after an epic game against Rafa Nadal.

Medvedev made a name for himself in the tennis elite with his particular style of tennis, with shots from the bottom of the court that are very flat, fast and low. They confused the rivals, who expect a superior pot, as well as a great effectiveness in points with short and long exchanges.

According to ATP statistics, the Moscow tennis player was the player who played the most points with an exchange of more than 9 blows last season with 1,393, of which he won 731, 52.5%, a percentage that only improved the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, who won 392 of 693 'rallies' with more than 9 hits, 56.6% of the points celebrated.

The Russian also stood out in the short exchanges between 0 and 4 shots, where he achieved the best percentage of the circuit in 2019 by winning 54.98% of the disputed points, improving the numbers of players such as Stan Wawrinka, John Isner, Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic. However, Medvedev's 'weakness' lies in the exchanges between 5 and 8 shots, where the Russian only wins 1031 of the 2027 points contested, 50.86%, being 25th in this classification.

Stefanos Tsitsipas was one of the players who showed his amazement at the Russian tennis player's style of play: “Medvedev has a very strange game. He is very sloppy, but a good sloppy. It is very uncomfortable to play against him. He plays differently, with flat, low balls with little angle. It can be stressful playing with him, he can make you fail without you knowing why you missed the point. “This is Daniil Medvedev, the average tennis player.
