Daniel Sancho's lawyers denounce “irregularities” in the Thai investigation and call a press conference to reveal unpublished data

New twist in the case of Daniel Sancho. With three months to go until the trial against Rodolfo Sancho's son begins (April 9), the lawyers who are in charge of his defense from Spain announce the first official press conference. It will be this Friday at 12:30 p.m. and the reason is, to say the least, surprising: to denounce the “irregularities” they have detected in the Thai police investigation.

The Chippirrás-Balfagón firm and Marcos García-Montes have joined forces to prove that the murder of Edwin Arrieta was accidental and not premeditated, as the police of the Asian country claim, and they are working hard to obtain a reduced sentence for their client compared to the sentence. capital or the life sentence requested by the Prosecutor's Office. Although at first they publicly showed all their respect for the methods and procedures of the Thai police, they have now changed the story: they claim that they have detected “irregularities in the criminal procedure followed in Thailand” and they are willing to present them next Friday at a press conference for all the Spanish media.

Just a few weeks ago, García Montes himself accused the first two Thai public defenders assigned to defend Daniel Sancho of having hidden documentation from them, which is why they requested his replacement: “The first lawyer we had hid from us, for example, that he had copies of the procedure and did not advise Daniel well. The second did not even speak to our client and left the first meeting saying that he was going for a life sentence.”

Focusing on the Thai authorities and doubting their good work is a highly risky strategy. Questioning their procedures and professionalism can create 'enemies' for them in the face of the trial, but the objective of Sancho's lawyers is clear: to draw the attention of international authorities and raise Daniel's protection to the highest levels.

Let us remember that Daniel is accused of premeditatedly murdering Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta last August in a bungalow on Koh Panghan. He denies it and claims that it was an accident resulting from a struggle. He does admit to having dismembered the body into 14 pieces and distributed them throughout the island to hide the evidence.
