Cyclist Arturo Grávalos dies at the age of 25 from a brain tumor

The Spanish cyclist Arturo Grávalos has died this morning at the age of 25, after fighting since 2021 against a brain tumorfrom which he underwent surgery that same year and on subsequent occasions, which made him put professional sport aside since then.

His last link in the world of cycling was with the Eolo-Kometa Cycling Team, led by Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso, a team that has been in charge of making the announcement of death through the official Twitter account, where they have requested “ethe utmost respect for your familyfriends and loved ones at this difficult time.

Grávalos was born on March 2, 1998 in the municipality of Cervera del Río Alhama, belonging to La Rioja, starting from very young his passion for cycling and sportspecifically, in the Under-19 category.

After passing through several teams, he finally signed for Kometa, linked to the Contador Foundation, with which he was proclaimed runner-up in Spain in the Under-23. He turned professional in 2021 in the renamed Eolo-Kometa, a team with which he played his last race: the 2021 Giro del Medio Brenta.

His continuity in professional cycling ended when he had to undergo surgery for a brain tumor, an operation that had a favorable evolution, according to the shared statement, but later he had to be intervened again several times. Finally, he passed away at dawn this Friday.

His death leaves an irreplaceable memory in our hearts, since we will never forget his joy and his eternal smile. His will to live, always present even before the onset of the disease, left us with thousands of magical moments in and out of competition,” they highlight in the publication.

“Arturo never gave up, because that was his nature, the one to put on the bib again”, they add. “Life has thrown him many obstacles in recent times and, always, always, he has reacted with the best face, overcoming them with the greatest of positivism.”
