CVC offers Madrid and Barça not to touch their television rights

The creation of the 'LaLiga Impulso' project is still up in the air while the 42 First and Second Division clubs debate its approval in an extraordinary Assembly. But while this agreement is being discussed and voted on, the media specialized in the sports industry 2Playbook has unveiled a new offer from the CVC investment fund. A clause is added to allow the two great opponents of the project, Barcelona and Real Madrid, to remain on the sidelines, they do not have to give up 10.95% of their television rights during the next 50 years and can only benefit from the collective benefits of the agreement thanks to the 2,700 million euros that the investment fund will provide. His new offer, in the absence of official status, is also addressed to the rest of the clubs that have voted against.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been presented as the great opposition to the Thebes agreement with CVC. This investment fund will inject an amount that is key to the short-term viability of the clubs (and that would have been the solution to the Messi case for Barça). A loan to be repaid in 40 years at low interest, and in exchange CVC will receive 11% of the income from LaLiga's non-audiovisual businesses and 10.95% from audiovisual businesses until 2070. Both clubs consider this agreement as a deception and little advantage for their clubs, which would jeopardize the income of their television rights for the next 50 years. Faced with this situation, including the threat of Real Madrid to go to court,

CVC, who has attended the Assembly together with Rothschild to present the project to all cubes, It has changed the roadmap and has opened the possibility that these clubs that do not want to participate in the agreement will leave out their television rights. Of course, they would not have access to their corresponding part of the loan of 2,700 million euros as long as they maintain this position. CVC also maintains the initial valuation of 24,250 million euros on the commercial business and a percentage of the audiovisual business.

Faced with this situation, the clubs that are left out would not have access to their part of the 2,700 million of the loan (more than 500 million between Madrid or Barcelona), although they would remain untouched in case they changed their position on the fly and decided to accept them.

With this agreement, LaLiga aims to promote the growth of the competition and support the clubs. They will directly receive 2,430 million euros to be distributed among them (a part is kept by the employer) and that money will have to be distributed according to certain criteria. 70% should go to pay for infrastructure and new investments, 15% to refinance the debt and face the losses suffered by the pandemic (more than 1,000 million) and the remaining 15% can be used in templates.
