MADRID, Jul 23. (EUROPA PRESS) – Borna Coric and Donna Vekic gave Croatia its second title in the Hopman Cup, the International Federation’s mixed team tournament that reappeared in Nice in 2023 after four years, after the victory in the final this Sunday against the Swiss of Leandro Riedi and Céline Naef.
Coric won the first point against Riedi 6-1, 6-4, and then Donna Vekic signed the Croatian triumph in the first edition of Nice, on clay and in summer, far from its traditional date in the Australian summer. The competition, which had given way to the ATP Cup, returned with Croatia’s second title after 1996.
Vekic’s 6-3, 6-4 victory over Naef broke Switzerland’s idyll with the tournament, champion in the last two editions of 2018 and 2019, although then it had Belinda Bencic and Roger Federer. With the 2-0, the mixed doubles was not played.
