Cristiano Ronaldo, icon of the Premier, mourns the death of Isabel II: “I have felt eternal love for her”

Cristiano Ronaldowho has seen his upcoming Premier League match affected by the death of Queen Elizabeth, has sent a message expressing his condolences on the death of Isabel II. The Portuguese player has great affection for Great Britain, since he played for Manchester United from 2003 to 2007 and resumed his stage with the same team in 2021.

“Seven years of my career I played in the Premier League, this being my eighth season living in England,” Cristiano wrote on Instagram along with a photo of the monarch, who died this Thursday, September 8, in Balmoral (Scotland).


“Throughout these years, I have felt the eternal love of the United Kingdom for its Queen and how important Her Majesty was and will always be for the British people,” adds Georgina Rodríguez’s boyfriend, who lost in the Europa League on Thursday against Real Sociedad (0-1).

Finally, Cristiano sends a message of condolences to the British and the Royal Family: “I pay my respects to his memory and mourn this irreplaceable loss with the country I have learned to call home. My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family”.

The Premier League postpones its matches

“To honor his extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a show of respect, this weekend’s round of Premier League matches will be postponed, including Monday night’s match,” the competition reported.

In a meeting this Friday, the Premier League clubs also paid tribute to the monarch. The competition also announced that the new date and time of these matches will be communicated “in due time.”

Premier chief executive Richard Masters insisted they wanted to “pay tribute to Elizabeth II’s long and unwavering service” during her more than 70-year reign. “She has been an inspiration and she leaves behind an incredible legacy after a lifetime of dedication,” he added.

As a sign of mourning, the Premier League clubs suspend the matches of this day 7 of the competition. This has been communicated this Friday the 9th. All the matches that were going to be played this weekend and on Monday the 12th will be postponed as a “show of respect” after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, according to a statement.
