Cristian Tello, soul of revulsive

Cristian Tello continues to drag that revulsive label that has haunted him since he arrived at Betis. The winger, who did not hesitate to continue in Heliópolis under the confidence of Manuel Pellegrini, is trying to get a place in a project designed to give continuity to what was achieved last year. His numbers continue to show a reality: he played as a starter only one of the ten games his team played so far this season. His role, for the moment, continues to shine from the eternal substitution.

Betis visit Vitoria this Monday and for Tello the look to the past is inevitable. Pellegrini’s project premiered there last year and the Catalan won his team with a goal at the close. The player admitted that he wants to get rid of that role as a revulsive, although again this season he performed good performances entering from the bench, as against Ferencvaros in the Europa League with a decisive goal in the last breath. Pellegrini knows that his virtues stand out between spaces and tries to draw his appearances in this context. He is also one of the team’s best finishers and an overflowing asset. But Pellegrini, for the moment, does not change his essence.

The return of players like Canales and Diego Lainez also complicate Tello’s options to settle in the Betic eleven. The Cantabrian is practically untouchable when available and the Mexican aims to have his first minutes of the season having been out since the Olympics due to injury. Ruibal, Joaquín, Rober and Rodri are other players who compete by the minute in that three-quarter zone. This panorama is not new for Tello, which nevertheless continues to leave glimpses of its potential when it appears on the grass under that usual stamp of revolution. His contract expires next summer and for now his future is unknown.
