Covid-19: Rummenigge admits concern about trip to Budapest

The managing director of Bayern Munich, Karl Heinz Rummenigge, admitted on Wednesday that the trip to Budapest to play the European Super Cup against Sevilla on Thursday causes “stomach pains” due to the situation in the Hungarian capital due to the pandemic of the coronavirus.

“The trip gives me stomach aches like anyone else,” Rummenigge told the Second German Television Network. Rummenigge assured that the club will do everything possible so that a new Ischgl does not occur, alluding to the Austrian ski resort where it is considered that the outbreak that brought the first wave of Covid-19 to Germany was generated.

“We will proceed with extreme care. We have a special interest that Budapest does not become a new Ischgl,” he said.

The fact that the game is played with an audience, with up to 20,000 spectators, has drawn harsh criticism in Germany.

Bayern had 4,500 tickets at their disposal, but Rummenigge estimates that fewer than 1,000 fans will travel to Budapest.

“When they return, they will be able to take a free coronavirus test at the airport,” Rummenigge said.
