Courtois: “The Champions League is the biggest trophy at club level and I haven’t won it yet”

MADRID, 4 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

Real Madrid’s Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, knows that it would be “very special” on a personal level to one day be able to win the Champions League, “the biggest trophy at club level” and that he has not yet been able to conquer it, although he believes that the fact of playing in his current team makes him eligible for it every year.

“I’ve won a lot of trophies, but the Champions League is the biggest at club level and I haven’t won it yet, so of course it would be very special for me to win it before I retire. There’s still time, I’ll keep trying to pursue my dreams and the Champions League is included in them,” Courtois said in an interview with the UEFA media published this Monday on the Real Madrid website.

The international goalkeeper confesses that “not even in his dreams” could he “imagine that one day” he could play for the 13-time European champion. “That’s the good thing about football, you have to believe in yourself and that one day your dreams can come true,” he said.

“All footballers dream of winning and I am lucky enough to play for Real Madrid, where every year you come close to doing so because you are going to play in a final, a semi-final or a quarter-final. Last year we reached the semi-finals in the League of Champions and this year we play against a great rival in the quarterfinals. I hope that we win and thus reach another semifinal, we’ll see”, he added about the match against English Chelsea.

In this sense, Courtois, who played for the London team for a few years, expects “a happy return” to Stamford Bridge, which will have an audience this time. “Now we are rivals. They want to win and so do I, so I don’t ask for any applause, but I hope they don’t boo me. I’m ready for anything and I’m happy to go back there with fans as the stadium was empty last year.” sentenced.
