Costa Rica takes the last ticket for the World Cup

MADRID, 14 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Costa Rican team will play the sixth World Cup in its history after winning the last ‘playoff’ against New Zealand (1-0) thanks to a solitary goal from Joel Campbell, which was definitive despite achieving it after three minutes of play.

The team led by Luis Fernando Suárez took advantage of a powerful shot from Campbell to knock out the New Zealanders, who tried everything in the final minutes but could not beat former Madrid player Keylor Navas. The ‘tico’ will play the third World Cup of his career.

The Oceanic did not give up until the end and even had several shots, one of them by Clayton Lewis who was about to force extra time at the Mohammed Abdulla Hassan stadium, venue of the ‘playoff’ between the Concacaf representative (North American, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation), and OFC (Oceania Football Confederation).

It will be the third consecutive World Cup for the Costa Rican team, which also becomes Spain’s first rival in the Qatar event. Those of Suárez, members of group E, will start the World Cup against ‘la Roja’ on November 23 at 5:00 p.m.
