Costa: “Parejo and Coquelin are stars and would contribute to Villarreal”

Jaume Costa will return to the command of Unai Emery next week, who was his coach in his early days at Valencia. The full-back, who returns to Villarreal after his year on loan at Valencia, is looking forward to his return and hopes to meet again at La Cerámica with Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin, two targets of the yellow team.

How do you see your future at Villarreal?

Villarreal has not yet told me anything about it. I only see the here and now, so my idea is to be able to arrive in the best conditions to be able to convince the coach and have a hole in the squad. What happens depends on what you do today, so the most important thing is now, and working to convince the coach.

The fight with Alberto and Quintillà on that left wing will not be easy. How do you analyze it?

My fight is with myself, I have always competed with many colleagues and with great players. My idea is to be by the side with the partner who touches me and to make things difficult for the coach.

How did you experience your departure from the club?

My departure is something that I did not expect, I always thought that my career would end at Villarreal, so I did not think about leaving. I had been at the club for many years and I got along well with everyone, so it was already my home. Last year I did not enter into the coach's plans, they let me drop the situation, but I tried to turn it around. Something that with time I saw that it was impossible and that I could not change it. I already thought about leaving the club when I saw that it was complicated, and Marcelino called me, so I decided that it was a place where I knew a lot of people and that it was a great option. I never wanted to leave this club and I want to show that I have a place in this team and in this group.

How do you rate the signing of Emery?

Emery makes me debut in UEFA when I was a very young kid. I went to Cadiz the following year, and when I came back I no longer had a place with Jordi Alba and Mathieu, so I left Valencia to play for Villarreal. Now I can meet him again, after having spent ten years of that. Things have changed for both of them, now he is a coach who has grown a lot, a coach who comes to Villarreal very mature and with a great record behind him. Emery is a coach who I think will contribute many things, a coach who can make a winning Villarreal.

He always says that his dream is to finish his career at Villarreal …

Villarreal has made me a player at a time when no one was betting on me, they gave me the opportunity to play and grow, that is something I will never forget. This year I told the leaders that I have always had the need to give back everything they bet on me.

How would you like your friend Parejo to play yellow this year?

I'm with Parejo on vacation, and it's true that I've made very good friends with him. He is a crack as a person and as a player. As a player you already know it, but as a person it is more. He is a player who feels very much about football and the club he is in, since he has been with it for many years and has had a very bad time. And all those things that come out affect him, everything that is coming out now makes him suffer. But he has a great quality, he has suffered a lot, and that makes you strong. What comes to Villarreal? Hopefully. He is a spectacular player and would be a great reinforcement for Villarreal.

How do you rate the couple that Parejo and Coquelin would form?

Both Dani (Parejo) and Coque (Coquelin) are incredible players, hopefully they can come, they are two stars as people and two phenomena in a team's dressing room. And as players, there is no doubt that they will contribute to the maximum in the team as they are.
