MADRID, 27 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spaniards Mari Paz Corominas, Santi Esteva, Sergi López, Jordi Sans and Nina Zhivanevskaya have become new members of the second edition of the Hall of Fame of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation on Tuesday.

After a few weeks of popular voting on social networks, with a total of 1,013 votes, plus those of the specialized jury made up of a member of the institutions of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), the Sports Press Association ( AEPD) and Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN) plus a member of the I Hall of Fame, have chosen the new winners.

Among them is Mari Paz Corominas, who represented the national team at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, where she qualified for the final in the 200-meter backstroke. In addition, she came to have the seventh best mark in the world in the 100-meter backstroke and all the Spanish records in freestyle, except for the 100-meter distance.

Another of the highlights was Santiago Esteva, who won two silver medals (100 and 200 meter backstroke) and two bronze medals (400 and 1500 meter freestyle) during the 1970 European Swimming Championships. In the case of Sergi López, specialist in the breaststroke events, he won the bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the 200 meter breaststroke.

In the Hall of Fame will also appear Nina Zhivanevskaya, a Spanish athlete of Russian origin who participated in five Olympic Games, between 1992 and 2008, obtaining two bronze medals, in Barcelona 1992 as part of the 4×100 meter relay style of the Unified Team, and in Sydney 2000, in the 100-meter backstroke.

Zhivanevskaya also won three medals at the World Swimming Championships, in the years 1994 and 2013, sixteen medals at the European Swimming Championships between the years 1993 and 2008, and six medals at the European Short Course Swimming Championships, in the years 1999 and 2000.

Finally, the water polo player Jordi Sans won the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and silver at Barcelona 1992, from 1982 to 2000. Thus, all of them will receive the recognition at the next RFEN Gala on October 7 public.
