Colo Colo achieved an important advantage (2-0) in the first leg of the round of 16 of the South American Cup by defeating with solvency in the Monumental stadium of Santiago de Chile to International of Porto Alegre, in a match that ended with controversy after the Argentine Patricio Loustau annulled a goal against the Brazilians at the request of the VAR.
In the 88th minute, the Brazilian striker took advantage of one of the few oversights of the local defense to reduce one of the two goals of disadvantage. Loustau conceded the goal but minutes later canceled it, warned of a hand in the hand in the previous play by Edenilson, which unleashed the fury of the visitors.
Four long minutes of intrigue that ended in an attempt at tangana by the Brazilians, who pounced on the judge, and who brought a long sigh of relief to a stand that had enjoyed for nearly ninety minutes with the most solid game deployed by ‘the cacique’.
Gustavo Quinteros’ men started better and opened the scoring very soon, after 12 minutes, thanks to Martín Lucero’s scoring nose, who controlled a ball with quality in the area and shot Daniel at will. A play that started with a steal in the center of the field, continued with a long and direct pass from Cesar Fuentes to the area where Gabriel Costa took advantage of the defense’s error to serve the Argentine striker on a layup.
With the loot in their pockets, the Colocolinos settled down and began to move the ball judiciously, strong in pressure and direct in attack, always vertical in the maneuvers of both Solari and Martín Lucero, their most dangerous men. The second was able to double the advantage in the 17th by trying to deflect a shot from the first and staying within millimeters of the ball and in the 21st by connecting a Chilean that went wide by very little.
Internacional was barely able to take off the pressure, but about half an hour later he made the first attack move, which also ended in controversy: Pedro Henrique faced César Fuentes in the area and went to the ground, but the Argentine referee did not consider that there would be nothing punishable.
With the same tonic, a solid Colo Colo and an Internacional that found few cracks was reached at the end of 45 minutes and the second half began in which history repeated itself.
The locals scored very quickly, thanks to a great play by Solari in the 54th minute, and the Brazilians were slow to react, unable to break the spider web set up by Quinteros.
Until the fateful 88′, in which they found the hole, the net, but also the watchful eye of VAR, which left them at a clear disadvantage for the second leg, despite not having been much inferior to their rival.
