Conte makes his Tottenham debut with a long-suffering win

Antonio Conte made his debut on the Tottenham bench with a suffered 3-2 win against Vitesse. After leading 3-0, the Dutch had chances to draw in a great game played at a frenetic pace and with three sent off.

Tottenham returned to Vitesse the 1-0 conceded two weeks ago and with this victory they recover the second place of group G of the Conference League, although three points behind the leader Rennes, who beat the Slovenian Mura (1-0).

Great welcome to Conte

Conte’s presence was greeted with a great reception by the Tottenham fans despite his past on the Chelsea bench. The Italian coach, appointed on Tuesday, introduced a tactical change since the ‘spurs’ played with a line of three centrals (Eric Dier, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies), Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilón of lanes, while Lucas Moura played at the top , Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

The illusion that Conte’s arrival aroused in the stands contrasted with the staging of a daring Vitesse who showed his intentions with a couple of dangerous arrivals in the first minutes. In the second of them Maximilian Wittek, scorer of the goal two weeks ago in Arnhem (1-0), burst in and his shot crashed into the side of the net.

They are open the scoreboard

Tottenhan had many difficulties to project in attack due to the extremely high pressure from Vitesse, but Son opened the scoring the first time he had (14 ‘). Lucas Moura received the space of Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, Martin Schubert avoided the goal, but the rebound fell to the South Korean, who crossed the net with the German goal out of goal.

Tottenham, with the goal, found the tranquility it needed, it was very effective in attack against the defensive fragility of a cheeky Vitesse who continued to generate chances but left too many spaces behind.

Kane assists Lucas Moura in the 2-0

Son made it 2-0 when he picked up a rebound and, after a little stomp, broke the ball against the post. But the goal came in the next attack. Kane took the ball in a great counter maneuver and assisted Lucas Moura to escape and beat Schubert (23 ‘).

Tottenham, unleashed, made it 3-0 in the 28th minute on a pass from Davies to Kane that ended in an own goal by Jacob Rasmussen in his attempt to avoid the shot at the forward’s pleasure.

Great reaction from the Vitesse

The 3-0 was excessive according to the merits of the Vitesse but when he seemed touched he did not stop insisting and found his prize. Hugo Lloris returned to a changed hand to avoid Sondre Tronstad’s goal, but in the ensuing corner Rasmusssen made up for the own goal by putting it 3-1 with a header ahead of Dier (32 ‘).

The Dutch were definitely in the game with 3-2 in the 39th minute after another recovery near the area. Yann Gboho put the ball to Matus Bero, who crossed his shot close to the post.

Lloris saves Tottenham with ten

If the first part was extraordinary due to its continuous overturns, in the second Vitesse came out ready to tie. He locked up Tottenham and the newcomer Ikoma Lois Openda forced Lloris to make a save (53 ‘). The situation was even more complicated for the ‘spurs’ when Romero saw the second yellow for a foul on Openda himself (59′).

Conte suffered on the wing and Lloris saved Tottenham again by showing off again in a great shot from Riechedly Bazoer (70 ‘). But curiously, Vitesse did not create more chances despite playing superiority and the game entered a new phase when Danilho Doekhi also saw the second yellow for grabbing Kane in midfield (80 ‘).

Vitesse ends with nine for the goalkeeper red

The expulsion, this time for a direct red, of goalkeeper Schubert after touching with his arm outside the area an attempt by Emerson Royal to overtake him (84 ‘) ended up condemning Vitesse, who protested the decision in the absence of the VAR in the Conference League. Tottenham could breathe easy and scored three points that he needed as May water from a psychological point of view.
