Constantine of Greece, brother of Queen Sofía, is admitted to the private ‘Hygeia’ hospital in Athens and would be in critical condition, as some Greek media have published. At the moment, there is only official confirmation from the Royal House of Greece about his hospital admission, but the causes that have led him to be in this delicate state are unknown.
Local media have published that his admission is due to a stroke that the monarch would have suffered at home and others point to an admission caused by the coronavirus.
It should be noted that Constantine’s state of health has been very unstable for several years. At the end of 2021 he was admitted to a hospital due to severe pneumonia and at the beginning of 2022 he was hospitalized after contracting Covid-19. At this time, the only thing that has emerged from his condition is that he is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), although he is not intubated.
His entire family has traveled to the hospital to accompany him in his lowest hours: his children, who live abroad, have traveled there and his wife, Queen Ana María, has not separated for a single moment from his side. Queen Sofía would have traveled there after attending the last goodbye of Pope Benedict XVI and the imminent arrival of her sister, Irene of Greece, is also expected.
